Toyota Recalls Brought About by Complexity, Not Quality

In defending Toyota from a recent spate of consumer complaints which led to the issuance of recall orders, Shinichi Sasaki attributed the defects to the growing complexity of vehicle design. Sasaki, president of Toyota Motor Europe, made the disclosure during the opening rites of the company’s E-GPC pan-European manufacturing training center in Burnsaston, England. Toyota ’s top man in Europe said that the growing number of defects and recall orders are in no way directly connected to quality matters. He further clarified that current consumer demands on vehicle architecture and safety are making it difficult for car engineers to come up with an error-free design.
